Murray Dairy has secured funding to continue the C4Milk project until Winter 2027. 

One of the key objectives of C4Milk is understanding the cumulative effects of crop rotations over multiple years.

The research project focuses on crop-crop effects (quality, yield, agronomic and environmental) in forage production systems in order to gain understanding of the cumulative effect of the change to intensive cropping rotations on profitability and sustainability of dairy farms, and how important beak crops might be in these systems.

Trials in Northern Victoria began in April 2024 in collaboration with Irrigation Farmers Network for irrigated winter/summer rotations and Birchip Cropping Group for dryland winter rotations.

The extension of the C4Milk project will add another three growing seasons for the IFN trials and a better understanding at the muti-year effects of intensive cropping.
